Crimson Desert

An open-world action-adventure from Pearl Abyss set on the continent of Pywel, where you follow Kliff as he reunites scattered Greymane survivors, explores cities and wilderness, and fights through the mysterious Abyss.

Crimson Desert 1.14.00 for Mac — Open-World RPG

What you do in Pywel

Crimson Desert blends exploration, quest-driven story, and fast melee combat. Travel on foot, horseback, and other mounts; climb and glide across terrain; and take on bosses, skirmishes, and large battles. Kliff leads the main arc, while playable allies Oongka and Damiane add distinct weapons and skill sets for side content. Outside combat, camp upgrades, crafting, cooking, fishing, hunting, and customization through dyes and gear shape day-to-day progression.

The world spans plains, deserts, mountains, ruins, and settlements with optional discovery points between main objectives. Combat emphasizes chained weapon skills, grapples, dodges, and elemental combinations across swords, spears, greatswords, axes, dual wield, and ranged loadouts.

Playing on Mac

Crimson Desert runs natively on Apple Silicon Macs through Steam (Mac) and the Mac App Store. Pearl Abyss targets M2 Pro or newer chips, 16 GB RAM, macOS 15.0 or later, and about 150 GB SSD storage. The Mac build uses Metal with MetalFX upscaling; the vendor recommends macOS 26 or newer for higher frame rates with frame interpolation on supported chips. Steam lists a one-time purchase around $69.99; a Deluxe Edition adds cosmetic gear and a soundtrack option.

Version 1.14.00 (July 16, 2026) is a systems update rather than new story content. It introduces cross-save across PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic via a linked Pearl Abyss account, plus quest, combat, audio, mount, and localization fixes. Mac players receive the gameplay patch on Steam Mac and Mac App Store, but cross-save does not include Mac in this release—Pearl Abyss states Mac cross-save support is planned for a future update.

Pros & Cons Show details

✅ PROS

  • Native Apple Silicon support makes Crimson Desert one of the few large-scale AAA open-world titles playable locally on Mac without streaming.
  • Varied combat with multiple weapons, playable characters, mounts, and camp systems offers depth beyond a linear action story.
  • Cross-save on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic lets console and PC players continue one slot when Mac cross-save arrives later.
  • Patch 1.14.00 fixes blocking quest progress, pet interaction locks, combat skill interruptions, and several audio and world-navigation bugs.
  • Fourteen language interfaces and broad voice/subtitle support suit an international player base on Mac and other platforms.

❌ CONS

  • Mac is excluded from cross-save in 1.14.00, so Mac saves cannot yet sync with PS5, Xbox, or PC slots despite the patch installing on Mac.
  • Strict hardware floor (M2 Pro+, 16 GB RAM, 150 GB SSD) excludes base M1/M2 Macs and tight-storage machines.
  • Large download and patch sizes, plus Denuvo on the Steam PC listing, may affect users who expected lighter Mac App Store DRM or smaller updates.
  • Version 1.14.00 adds no major new story or zones—mostly cross-save (elsewhere) and fixes— which may disappoint players waiting for content drops.
  • Performance scales sharply by chip tier; comfortable 1080p/60 fps on Mac may require M3 Pro class hardware and a newer macOS release.
