Sketch
A native macOS vector design application for screen UI, design systems, and interactive prototypes, with optional cloud Workspaces for team review and developer handoff.
Typical Mac workflow
You lay out frames, components, and vector shapes on the canvas, then promote repeating UI into Symbols and shared Libraries for consistent product work. The Inspector handles fills, borders, typography, layout stacks, and prototyping links; the Preview window lets you walk through flows before export. Designers on subscriptions can collaborate in real time, comment in the browser, and share documents through a Workspace, while solo users can keep files local with a Mac-only license.
The Edinburgh (2026.2) line added multi-paste across selections, perceptual Oklab and vibrant Oklch gradient interpolation, faster Symbol and Library replacement, expanded Copy Properties for layout and interactions, and prototype preview options such as Follow Selection and Float on Top. An MCP server and plugin API also support automation and design-to-code workflows with external AI tools.
Licensing and version 2026.2.1
Sketch offers a 30-day trial, yearly subscriptions from about $12 per editor per month, or a $120 Mac-only license with one year of updates for offline solo work. Version 2026.2.1 requires macOS Sonoma 14.0 or later and is a maintenance build on top of Edinburgh: it adds a Slice export option and eight crash and layout fixes rather than headline design features.
