Steinberg Nuendo is a professional digital audio workstation aimed at post-production: film and TV dubbing, game audio, immersive sound (Dolby Atmos, MPEG-H), VR, and broadcast workflows—not a lightweight music sketch pad like GarageBand.
What Nuendo does on Mac
On macOS, Nuendo handles multitrack editing, sound design, mixing, and delivery in one timeline. Post-specific tools include ADR and Foley workflows, extensive video engine integration, loudness metering, renderer support for immersive formats, and game-audio middleware connections. It shares DNA with Cubase but adds deeper media-production features that film and game studios expect. Projects scale from stereo mixes to large surround sessions; EuCon control surfaces, Field Recorder workflows, and S-ADM import support professional facility pipelines.
Licensing and system fit
Nuendo 15 is sold as a perpetual license (about $999 USD full version; crossgrades from other DAWs are cheaper) through Steinberg—not the Mac App Store. Updates such as 15.0.30 ship via Steinberg Download Assistant and require an active Nuendo 15 license. Steinberg documents support for macOS 14, 15, and 26 on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, with 8 GB RAM minimum and substantial disk space for sessions and content. Apple Silicon Macs run the app natively; real post sessions still benefit from 32 GB RAM or more and fast storage.

Released 3 June 2026, build 15.0.30 is a maintenance update with fixes across tracks, editing, plug-ins, media import, MixConsole, and MIDI Remote. Nuendo 15 license holders also receive Celemony Tonalic Essential—a free perpetual guitar-performance library integrated via ARA in the Project window’s right zone, redeemable through MySteinberg vouchers.
