Running first terminal command and receive this error:

dd: /Applications/TurboTax Deluxe 2019.app/Contents/MacOS/TurboTax 2019: No such file or directory

Note* Must be connected to internet for install, doesn’t allow you to “try again” without connection. Mandatory update to install, followed by activation. No activation code, no proceed.

    Unable to locate

    ~/Library/Application Support/TurboTax Deluxe 2019/

Since cannot install bypassing activation code

      Disregard above.

Change the command line to reflect the version you are using ***:

      printf ‘\x31\xc0\x66\x90’ | dd seek=$((0x345d7)) conv=notrunc bs=1 of=”/Applications/TurboTax ***Deluxe ***2019.app/Contents/MacOS/TurboTax 2019″

      e.g.

      printf ‘\x31\xc0\x66\x90’ | dd seek=$((0x345d7)) conv=notrunc bs=1 of=”/Applications/TurboTax Premier 2019.app/Contents/MacOS/TurboTax 2019″

Also had some trouble finding the ~/Library/Application Support/TurboTax Premier 2019/ folder, even in terminal.

I went to Finder > Go > Go to Folder and copied pasted ~/Library/Application Support/TurboTax Premier 2019/ and it connected no problem.

      So far so good!

Install turbotax and run first command line to patch it, it might not run when you try to open from Applications so right click it and select show package contents, open Contents folder, then MacOS folder and double click TurboTax 2019. Run it with wifi off so it can’t check for update, download state file with wifi on when you get to that point and copy entitlements crack if needed. This bypasses initial activation check and gets you the state, then update to get the latest forms. I changed the name of TurboTax Deluxe 2019 to TurboTax backup since the forms folder contains the state and updated latest forms. It will now ask you for activation since you updated.

Erase updated TurboTax located in Applications and reinstall un updated version. Edit your hosts file by running “sudo nano /etc/hosts” and adding this line at the bottom “127.0.0.1 download.esd.intuit.com” followed by 1 empty line, this blocks it from checking for update. Copy the backed up forms folder into the new TurboTax 2019 Deluxe/Premier/H&M folder to get the state and latest forms to file. Recrack the same way and you should be able to do your taxes without having to update since its blocked from loading that domain while having the latest forms.

Thanks Nobody, this worked great for me (so far, haven’t filed yet). Am fairly experienced with these kinds of things but likely wouldn’t have gotten there without your note here. /thumbs up/

What do you mean by “Erase updated TurboTax located in Applications and reinstall un updated version.”
        ALSO,

        what dies this mean?

I changed the name of TurboTax Deluxe 2019 to TurboTax backup since the forms folder contains the state and updated latest forms. It will now ask you for activation since you updated. Where do we do that? Any screen shots?

He means to Uninstall the version you just updated. Then Install the un-updated (the original version in the file you downloaded here)
As for your second question, you basically just need to copy the FORMS folder and put it elsewhere. Once you have installed the new ‘UN-updated” version just put the Forms folder back in the specific directory MrNobody directs you to.
If you follow his steps one at a time and in sequence it will work. I just did it today 4/18 e-filed and all.
If you need a more clear logical sequence let us know and we’ll help.

Hi, I have updated the app and installed an un-updated version, but the app is not working properly, I assume it is because of the FORMS folder, how do I transfer it form the updated version to the un-updated? Thanks

In the Home+Business app there is a ‘patched’ folder. When unzipping that I find a file called ‘entitlements’ – alas, I don’t know what to do with this file? Anybody knows? TX.

Home Business is asking for activation code. Instructions perhaps arent clear or do not work for home business.

Same here. It appears that the last update in early April updated the version to TurboTax 2019.r25.040 which is no longer allowing the command string to activate this version. Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated.

It bypasses the activation screen. It’s the crack. Once you apply that command it will start up normally.

    Home Business works!
    1. Install.
    2. Disable wifi
    3. In OSX catalina, go to the applications folder and turbotax 2019, right click and click open. It will check for updates and ask that you connect to the internet. Ignore and quit.
    4. Run this command (one single long line) in Terminal.

    printf ‘\x31\xc0\x66\x90’ | dd seek=$((0x345d7)) conv=notrunc bs=1 of=”/Applications/TurboTax Home Business 2019.app/Contents/MacOS/TurboTax 2019″

    5. Open the app now, DO NOT UPDATE or it will stop working.
    6. Download your state, one state is free or use the patch. If you only need 1 state, no need to patch.
    7. Edit your hosts file by running “sudo nano /etc/hosts” and adding this line at the bottom “127.0.0.1 download.esd.intuit.com”
    8. Now go ahead and do your taxes.

How did you install state without first updating the software? Mine wouldn’t let me proceed to the next steps without updating. Thanks.

I did it yesterday 6/10 and this is the only way i was able to get it all filed thanks Dan Dan for the initial steps that really helped

Home Business works – (though with some finagling if you want to e-file
    1. Install.
    2. Disable wifi
    3. In OSX Catalina, go to the Applications folder and TurboTax 2019, right-click, and click open. It will check for updates and ask that you connect to the internet. Ignore and quit. (Your mac may block it from opening so go to settings security and open anyway)
    4. Run this command (one single long line) in Terminal.

printf ‘\x31\xc0\x66\x90’ | dd seek=$((0x345d7)) conv=notrunc bs=1 of=”/Applications/TurboTax Home Business 2019.app/Contents/MacOS/TurboTax 2019″. (I hade to manually update the one in the readme when i coppied it from here it did not work)

    5. Open the app now, Do Not UPDATE yet
    6. Download your state, one state is free or use the patch. If you only need 1 state, no need to patch.
    7. Now go ahead and do your taxes.
    8. Before you try to e-file Now run the update. (without update you will not be able to e-file
    9. rename the app to backup as it will no longer work
10 Install a new version of the app
    11. Disable wifi
    12. In OSX Catalina, go to the Applications folder and TurboTax 2019, right-click, and click open. It will check for updates and ask that you connect to the internet. Ignore and quit.
    13. Run this command (one single long line) in Terminal.

printf ‘\x31\xc0\x66\x90’ | dd seek=$((0x345d7)) conv=notrunc bs=1 of=”/Applications/TurboTax Home Business 2019.app/Contents/MacOS/TurboTax 2019″. (I hade to manually update the one in the readme when I copied it from here it did not work)

    14. Now you can e-file

I assume same will work for other versions but i used home and business

First of all thanks lots to ‘RG’. It works well. I e-filed last night (Deluxe but should work with any instances). The new version is the same (old) version you downloaded 🙂 By somehow after you upgraded the first install to the latest version and renamed, the system acknowledges that despite the new (2nd) install is still the old version. Fortunately I downloaded two states before. However this time doesn’t allow me to waive $25 filing fee with one state even after Entitlement file override. So I paid $25 and e-filed successfully. Disconnect WIFI and open the 2nd install otherwise it will force you to upgrade, then reconnect WIFI and e-file. It just works!

@RG, you are life saver! I would not have gotten this thing to work without your monumental input! I did my taxes and eFiled it perfectly by following your instructions! Thank you so very much!

@ Pete down there: I was able to get it to not charge me for the state eFile by using the commend line in the readme file that came with the download. From what I understand from that readme file, switching out the entitlement file in the Resource folder is only for downloading additional state without being charged (which also worked out perfectly for me).

Hi, thanks to everyone for their advice. I am stuck on Step 5, “do not update.” If I x out of the update, the entire application closes. While the update modal prompt is up, all the menu options are greyed out. If I start without wifi, I get the “cannot authenticate” screen. I feel like I must be missing something obvious here. Appreciate any additional tips.

    Hi All,

I’m not sure how we’re supposed to use the crack to download multiple states here. @John L, @RG or others if you can please help with step-by-step instructions, I’d really appreciate it!

I am new to MACs so having quite a bit of trouble following through with the detailed step-by-step cited here.

    Hi JohnL/RG,

I’m unsure how to use the patch for downloading multiple state forms (the particular line below). Any assistance you can give here please?

    6. Download your state, one state is free or use the patch. If you only need 1 state, no need to patch.

Fortunately I was able to download two states with the patched Entitlement file in April but delayed filing until last night. Guess after all updates now you may not able to, seem also not able to bypass $25 state e-file fee. I actually also downloaded the Windows version from another site that updated to the latest version but unable to download 2nd state free. Thought I had to pay 2nd state and e-file fee with Windows version until I saw the RG steps that saved me $45 or $50 2nd state fee. Next year I gonna file earlier otherwise updates will still interrupt process.

Anyone about to import information from their brokerage or financial institutions after running the printf command on macOS versions of TurboTax? I cannot connect to any of my financial institutions – I unfortunately might end up needing to purchase this beast before the deadline.

Absolutely can not get this to work.

Tried the patch string before running the app for the first time, and Finder says it’s damaged and must be moved to trash.

Tried running the app once with WIFI off (and also tried with WIFI on), quitting, and then running the patch string – no success, app still won’t let me get past the Install Update prompt. Also the menu options at top of screen stay grayed out so I can’t select anything to download forms.

I’m running Mojave and attempting Home Business, using the patch string below. I can confirm the command executes because I’m getting the below from Terminal, and the file modification time updates.
    18+0 records in
    18+0 records out
    18 bytes transferred in 0.000182 secs (98948 bytes/sec)

    printf ‘\x31\xc0\x66\x90’ | dd seek=$((0x345d7)) conv=notrunc bs=1 of=”/Applications/TurboTax Home Business 2019.app/Contents/MacOS/TurboTax 2019″

    Any suggestions?
